ISPO is delighted to announce that the 16th World Congress 2017 will be the host of the first-ever special GATE Symposium on “Assistive Technology for All” hosted jointly by the World Health Organization and ISPO.
The WHO GATE Initiative, Global Cooperation on Assistive Technology, is aimed at improving access to high-quality, affordable assistive products for persons with disabilities globally. With populations ageing and an exponential rise in the incidence of non-communicable diseases, the number of people needing assistive products globally is projected to increase to beyond two billion by 2050. Today, only one in 10 people in need have access to assistive technology. The WHO is coordinating the GATE initiative to address this massive and growing unmet need in the coming years.
The GATE symposium will be hosted on Monday, 8 May 2017, on the opening day of the which will be held from 8-11 May 2017 in Cape Town, South Africa. The latest advances in universal access to P&O care delivery such as the WHO Priority Assistive Devices List, the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities will be amongst the important topics touched upon in this high-level symposium. We invite you to mark you agendas and look forward to your valued participation.
