As 2017 is coming to an end, I would like to thank all of you for your sustained and continued efforts throughout the year to further develop services for individuals who benefit from assistive technology to optimize function, activity and participation.
This year has seen significant progress with the publication of the WHO/USAID/ISPO Global Standards for Prosthetics and Orthotics. In addition, the work on developing new education standards for prosthetics and orthotics has continued, with a view to launching these in 2018.
The work to advocate worldwide for increased access to P&O and other services for people with disabilities has been a priority. This is evidenced through the strong cooperation with the WHO, including the GATE Symposium at the ISPO World Congress in Cape Town, our contribution to Rehabilitation 2030 and supported by the popular awareness campaign #ISPOWER.
Continuously striving to adapt to a changing politic, economic and scientific environment, ISPO has implemented some new innovations in 2017 including; the introduction of a new IC2a Lecture included in the Opening Ceremony of the ISPO World Congress, the creation of an ISPO Wheelchair Advisory Group and the development of a consumer advisory group currently underway and the establishment of a closer liaison between FATO and ISPO.
Looking ahead, and in line with my priorities as President, we will look to continue to seek opportunities to develop and foster increased international and regional collaboration and promote new ways of collaborating on a broader basis to further promote service development and delivery for individuals with a disability.
I wish you all a peaceful Christmas and a pleasant and successful New Year 2018!
