ISPO Partner Handicap International Becomes Humanity and Inclusion

On January 24th 2018, the global Handicap International network changed its name and became Humanity & Inclusion. The rationale behind the change is a willingness from the organization to communicate more effectively on the diversity of its activities, which are not confined to supporting people with disabilities. Indeed, over the years, Handicap International has developed considerable expertise and a wide range of activities for addressing the essential needs of people with disabilities and other vulnerable people, improving their living conditions and promoting respect for their dignity and fundamental rights.
The new name for HI international network expresses one of the organisation’s central values: humanity. This value is reflected in the benevolent and empathic approach HI brings to its actions, the proximity HI establishes with the beneficiaries of its programmes and HI’s respect for each person’s individuality. HI also reflects an ambition that has driven the organization’s action for the last 35 years: the inclusion of people who are otherwise overlooked, left behind by standard humanitarian responses, especially people with disabilities.
For the first time in the organisation’s history, the HI logo contains a symbol –the hand. For Humanity and Inclusion, this powerful and universal symbol mirrors the value of humanity expressed in the organisation’s new name. But it also represents support, protection and care, as well as communication and exchange.
