In the United States, the pathway approved for Category I recognition includes a master’s level education in P&O at a U.S. program recognized by the National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education (NCOPE) as well as an eighteen month residency at an accredited facility recognized by NCOPE. At the culmination of the residency, all candidates must pass the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics, Inc. (ABC) Prosthetics and Orthotics certification examination.
