Biennium report 2023
INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY FOR PROSTHETICS AND ORTHOTICS 29 How did/does your member society contribute to the following: P&O Day, and ISPO World Congress? We contributed by writing articles and submitting them or participating online. What is the society’s plan for the future, and how does it intend to continue serving its members and advancing ISPO’s mission? We plan to continue providing professional development opportunities for members through conferences, workshops, and training programs; enhancing networking opportunities for members by creating online communities or hosting events to facilitate connections and knowledge sharing, and collaborating with other organizations in the field to advance the mission of ISPO and increase its impact. Kenya What does being part of ISPO mean for your member society? It means being recognised internationally and keeping ourselves updated with the latest technology through the ISPO journals. What were your main objectives and goals as a member society during the biennium? Our main objective was to recruit more members to our chapter membership in Kenya since most orthopaedic technologists in our country are locally trained and have no international recognition. How has the membership base of the society changed during the biennium, and what strategies have been implemented to attract and retain members? We have made the profession visible by participating in disability awareness and also participated in the first ever celebrated world prosthetics/orthotics day. The society has also, through a few members, participated in the first ever strategic plan for rehabilitation professionals in Kenya. What do your members expected from ISPO International? We expect to be involved in the training committees of ISPO and to attract sponsorship for our members to further their education in prosthetics/orthotics. How does your member society use the new ISPO Community platform? We promote all our activities on the platform. How did/does your member society contribute to the following: P&O Day, and ISPO World Congress? We participated by creating awareness of our society and participating in the ISPO World Congress. Two of us shall represent our country at the next Congress taking place this year. What is the society’s plan for the future, and how does it intend to continue serving its members and advancing ISPO’s mission? We are planning a mass recruitment drive for more members while also volunteering to teach in the Kenya medical training college in the department of prosthetics and orthotics.
