Biennium report 2023
INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY FOR PROSTHETICS AND ORTHOTICS 7 In August 2022, the ISPO board gathered in person to have a strategic conversation about the long-term future direction of ISPO. This highly productive and engaging meeting kick-started the development of the ISPO Roadmap 2023-2030. At the heart of our discussions was the recognition that ISPO is at a critical moment in its history. To ensure that we continue to serve our members and advance the field of prosthetics and orthotics, we need to have a clear vision of where we are headed in the years to come. To that end, we have committed to co-creating a plan with everyone in the Society - members, volunteers, user community, partners, and collaborators - to unite under a shared sense of purpose and map out our future direction. To date, we have conducted consultations with board and committee members, national member societies, and ISPO partners. 42 stakeholders have been engaged and 75+ National Member Societies were invited to give input through surveys and workshops. We are delighted to share the first outcomes with you today. United under a common vision: equal opportunity for full participation The ISPO vision to work towards “a world where all people have the equal opportunity for full participation in society” continues to resonate with our community, and we remain committed to this as our north start as we move forward. To achieve this vision, we have identified two key themes that will guide our work over the next years. Our Goals: ISPO as a thought leader and hub of innovation for the sector ISPO aims to be at the forefront of promoting and developing the field of assistive technology, prosthetics, and orthotics. We aim to be a leader in advancing the sector by developing standards, sharing best practices, and supporting research and initiatives that can drive innovation in the field. ISPO 2030 Roadmap As a hub of innovation, ISPO will act as a platform for the global assistive technology and P&O community to come together to learn, collaborate, and exchange ideas. Our Goals: ISPO as an international, multidisciplinary community ISPO aims to act as the global community of assistive technology and P&O professionals, educators, users, policy- and research partners. We aim to further develop and grow our membership by acting as a place to meet, network, learn, and grow together. By doing so, we aim to foster a diverse and inclusive community that can support and defend the needs of all our members and users. Our Objectives: inclusive growth, smart governance, and strong national member societies In order to advance on these two goals in the next eight years, ISPO will focus on three concrete objectives. Inclusive growth ISPO will focus on attracting and engaging new stakeholders as members and partners. This will involve building a more diverse and inclusive community by actively reaching out to underrepresented groups and promoting the benefits of membership to a wider audience. Smart governance ISPO recognizes the importance of good governance in achieving its goals. To this end, we will work on a sustainable and inclusive decision-making system to guide the society.
