ISPO Pakistan Celebrates IDPD 2017

ISPO Pakistan with its partner organizations observed the International Day of Person with Disabilities on 6th December 2017 at Peshawar. More than 30 organizations participated in the event including the International committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Friends of Paraplegic (FOP), the Paraplegic center Hayatabad, the Pakistan Redcresent society (PRCS), the Zalimi Foundation and the Government of KP as main stakeholders.
More than 400 sports persons and children with disabilities got together at the Hayatabad Sports Complex for a sports meeting.
The main event, the “Ability Sports Festival” was organised in connection with the International Day of People with Disabilities, celebrated all over the world on December 3, gathering disabled sportsmen, sportswomen and children from 13 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Bajaur as well as Khyber agencies of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). Sportspeople took part in T-10 wheelchair cricket, wheelchair table tennis, standing table tennis and badminton.
The event was made very special by arranging different activities for Persons With Disabilities. The event venues were filled with colourful balloons, banners and stands.
During the event, the ISPO Awareness raising campaign #ISPOWER was highlighted through information dissemination, #ISPOWER leaflets and posters distribution.
An awareness walk was organized, illustrating the whole idea of moving ahead hand in hand with people with disabilities. It was a motivational day for all of us when we see such courage and determination.
The local and national media was present to publicize the event. A prize distribution ceremony was held at the end of the day. Gifts and prizes were distributed among all.
The day ended with the message that issues of the disabled community would be a primary focus and their rights should be respected in every way.
