ISPO is extremely pleased to announce that its current President, Professor Friedbert Kohler, has recently been awarded the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) by the Australian Government on their 2018 Australia Day of Honours and Awards.
The OAM confers recognition for outstanding achievement and service. This honour is nominated by the community and awarded by the Australian Government and Governor-General. Friedbert Kohler has contributed longstanding and dedicated services to physical medicine services in Australia and internationally. “Professor Kohler is well known across the District (South Western Sydney) for his outstanding commitment to research, teaching, patient care and the community.” He is also a founding fellow at the Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. When interviewed in Sydney, Professor Kohler said “While I have received the award it is really reflective of the team behind it.” Interestingly, on the same day that his award was announced a member of the ISPO Executive Board was presenting a statement in Geneva at the WHO Executive Meeting to support their resolution to improve access to Assistive Technology.
The Society is proud of Friedbert’s achievements and is honoured to have him as our current President. We congratulate him and his family on this recognition by his Australian Government.
