Together with the Samoa National Health Service and with the support of the Ministry of Health and the Government of Australia, Motivation Australia has been working over the last 4 years on increasing access to mobility devices and services for people living on the Samoa Island.
Now almost at a close, the Samoa Integrated Mobility Device Service (SIMDES) Project has allowed a number of citizens to benefit from Assistive Health Technology services and devices, allowing them to go back to life. In Samoa, farming is the backbone for generating income and to help with family expenses, sending children to school, church, village and family obligations, it is thus essential for people with disabilities to be able to undertake working and social activities as well as for children to go to school and play with their friends.
Established in 2014 through a partnership between the NHS and Motivation Australia, the Mobility Device Service (MDS) demonstrates integrated mobility device services as a successful approach for assistive technology provision.
