The ISPO Global Educators Meeting (GEM) took place between 18-20 September 2018, in Göttingen, Germany. GEM2018 was organised by ISPO International and the Private University of Applied Sciences (PFH), in partnership with and supported by over 15 companies and organisations from around the world, and gathered prosthetics and orthotics educators from 38 countries to discuss educational methods and techniques, network and strengthen cooperative ties amongst them.

Sebastian Purps-Pardigol gave the keynote address at the Opening Ceremony during which he demonstrated how neuroscience combined with new training management ideas can help unfold people’s potential in their work environment. During the World Café Workshop, GEM participants had the opportunity to reflect upon the principles introduced by Sebastian and develop ideas on how to apply them in their everyday professional lives. The proceeds from the keynote lecture and workshop were donated by Sebastian to a German Charity, the Bio-Brotbox.

The three days offered participants and speakers several opportunities to discuss matters of interest related to prosthetics and orthotics education on topics such as Learning Facilitation, Assessment, Programme Development and Collaboration.

GEM2018 marked an important milestone for ISPO Education as the new ISPO Education Standards for Prosthetic/Orthotic Occupations were officially launched on the second day of the meeting. GEM participants could exclusively benefit from an information session on the new Standards and implementation processes offered by Bryan Malas, Chair of the ISPO Education Committee and Helen Cochrane, ISPO Education Committee co-Chair.

ISPO International would like to take this opportunity to thank the GEM sponsors and PFH for their generous contributions and support, which were vital for the success of this event.
