ISPO attends the Global Rehabilitation 2030 Meeting
Monday 15 July 2019
During his visit to Switzerland, ISPO President Professor Friedbert Kohler OAM met on 7 July with ISWP, USAID, AT scale and ISPRM. All organisations agreed to work together on continuing to develop the wheelchair sector and information was shared on proposed plans for the governance structure of ISWP. There were also numerous further discussions on collaborative projects and the way forward for the wheelchair sector.
Monday 8 July was the start of the Rehabilitation 2030 meeting, the aim of which was to discuss the progress of the Rehab 2030 agenda and drive this agenda further. The aim is to make rehabilitation part of the Universal Health Coverage. Full details of the meeting are available here.
The sessions were interesting and the breaks filled with networking opportunities with WHO, USAID, and numerous groups and individuals.
In the evening, the sessions were followed by a welcome networking reception which was attended by the WHO Director General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. As the reception was also attended by some Ministers of Health and other health officials from numerous countries, relationships with some of these governmental representatives could also be fostered.
Former ISPO President Bengt Söderberg also joined the Rehabilitation 2030 meeting and another parallel meeting on 10th July 2019 on the Package of Rehabilitation Interventions, and the Rehabilitation Competency Framework.
The next day, the Memoranda of Understanding between ISPO and ISPRM on the one hand and between ISPO and Cochrane Rehabilitation on the other hand were signed. Click here for more information.
A scoping meeting with Alison Feinberg from AT scale was also held on Thursday 11 July to gain a better understanding of the roles of the organisations in this new exciting phases of Assistive Technology rollout.
