“HowToTreat”: Sharing O&P experience worldwide

  • “HowToTreat” magazine launched on the occasion of the 17th ISPO World Congress in Kobe
  • Knowledge exchange for professional prosthetists and orthotists
  • Peer-reviewed papers
  • Exclusively for the world congresses OTWorld and ISPO World Congress
  •  Kobe.

“HowToTreat” is an international magazine dedicated to professional prosthetists and orthotists that was created exclusively for the world congresses “OTWorld” and “ISPO World Congress”. The first edition will be published on the occasion of the 17th World Congress of the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO) from 5 to 8 October 2019 in Kobe. The special edition is being published in close cooperation with the organising associations. Each and every issue will focus on peer-reviewed papers dealing with the practical aspects of providing care. The Kobe edition, for example, will deal with osseointegration, prosthetics, 3D fabrication, and diabetes-adapted footbeds. The second edition is planned for the OTWorld 2020.

“Not to know is bad; not to wish to know is worse”, says ISPO President Friedbert Kohler, quoting an African proverb in his “HowToTreat” welcome speech. This is “important for all those who in their daily practise deal with the numerous aspects of providing assistive technology, mobility aids, prosthetics and orthotics. There are always gaps in our knowledge and we are always looking for ways to find and close such gaps.” The new magazine “HowToTreat” offers the possibility of exchanging practical experiences and knowledge and thus learning from each other.

“The following question unites us across all borders: How can we improve the quality of care for our patients?”, adds Klaus-Jürgen Lotz, President of the German Association of Orthopaedic Technology (BIV-OT). “Today more than ever, progress requires both global and interdisciplinary networks that enable us to exchange ideas and experiences. The magazine ‘HowToTreat’ aims to actively contribute to this global exchange of experiences.”

Partners of the magazine “HowToTreat” include ISPO and BIV-OT.

The editorial board of the journal is also supported by Verlag Orthopädie-Technik (Verlag OT), Human Study e.V., and Bundesfachschule für Orthopädie-Technik e.V. (BUFA; Federal Academy of Orthopaedic Technology).

Copy price of the print version: € 15.00 including e-paper,

The next edition of “HowToTreat” will be published on the occasion of the OTWorld World Congress held in Leipzig from 12 to 15 May 2020. The Leipzig edition focuses on child care, especially in cases of cerebral palsy (CP), and digitisation.
