La Trobe Universities Bachelor of Prosthetics and Orthotics (Honours) program is a 4-year training program which has full accreditation status under the Australian Orthotic and Prosthetic Association (AOPA).

On graduation you’ll be eligible to work as an accredited prosthetist or orthotist in Australia or internationally, supporting people living with physical and functional limitations.

From your first year, you’ll learn practical skills at La Trobe’s purpose-built prosthetic and orthotic facilities. You also get valuable, hands-on experience when you undertake clinical placements and experiences.

People are at the heart of this profession. You’ll learn how to discover what’s important for your clients and help them create health solutions using a prosthetic or orthotic device. You’ll explore the many ways you can partner with people to meet their health needs and goals.

Gain?essential knowledge?and tools that you’ll use every day.?Understand the complexity of human anatomy and physiology, explore how humans move with advanced study in biomechanics, and learn how to design and provide effective prostheses and orthoses. You’ll also learn how to develop ongoing relationships with your clients as you monitor their progress and ensure their prostheses and orthoses are effective. You can choose to study Honours as either an industry or research project, and develop your expertise further.?

You will learn the latest best practice?from experienced?academic staff, as?your teachers?have a wealth of clinical?experience?and?have?worked in?a variety of settings, including public health, private practice and research. You’ll also study alongside other allied health students and learn how to work collaboratively with other health disciplines.

La Trobe universities Prosthetics and Orthotics program has been accredited as a Category 1 program (Prosthetist Orthotist) since 2008 and a planned accreditation is scheduled for the end of 2022.
