We are pleased to present this report, which captures the collective insights and recommendations from the ISPO consensus conference on the orthotic management of individuals with cerebral palsy. Building on the success of the seminal 1994 Duke University conference—which set a global benchmark for multidisciplinary collaboration—this updated initiative responds to the significant advancements in assessment, treatment, and orthotic design over the past decades.
Held in Oxford in 2008, the conference brought together 24 leading international experts to review the latest evidence and clinical practices in cerebral palsy care. For the first time, the scope expanded to include the spine, hips, and upper limbs in addition to lower limb orthoses. The resulting reviews, discussions, and graded recommendations reflect current best practices and aim to guide clinicians, researchers, and policymakers worldwide.
This report is both a comprehensive educational resource and a catalyst for improving outcomes for people with cerebral palsy globally. We thank all contributors for their dedication and hope this work continues to inspire progress in orthotic and rehabilitation care.
