Advancing P&O Education in Disruptive Times: Leveraging Opportunities
The third ISPO Global Educators Meeting brought together the global P&O education community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Originally awarded to Thailand, the event was ultimately held virtually because of travel restrictions. Despite these challenges, GEM2022 provided opportunities for networking, collaboration and professional exchange.

Participants included educators, programme leaders, administrators, accrediting bodies and international organisations.
Highlights
Global Virtual Experience
The Airmeet platform enabled participants from around the world to connect and included random bilateral networking sessions.
ISPO–ISWP Collaboration
A pilot wheelchair service training programme was delivered jointly by ISPO and ISWP, with nine participants completing certification.
Focus Groups and Ongoing Activities
Faculty from multiple institutions initiated discussions on educational research priorities and established a framework for continued collaboration beyond the meeting.
Key Outcomes
Strengthening Global Collaboration
Educators identified the importance of maintaining ongoing activities between GEM meetings.
Educational Research
Focus groups generated themes and surveys that would lead to projects to be presented at GEM 2024.
Positive Participant Feedback
Participants overwhelmingly valued the content and intended to participate in future GEMs, although many preferred in-person meetings.
