This department was established in 2020 at Erbil Polytechnic University, and it is the only department not in the Kurdistan Region but in Iraq to graduate students with a bachelor’s degree in prosthetics and orthotics, and this was supported by the International Committee of the Red Cross, and under a cooperative plan between the university and The aforementioned committee, as well as (the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Kurdistan Region, the Ministry of Higher Education in Iraq, the Ministry of Health in the Kurdistan Region, and the Ministry of Health in Iraq).
With the first batch 15 graduates graduated in June 2024. It is worth noting that those accepted to study in this department are selected from all governorates of Iraq, and this is the case for the second batch of 15 student intake 2022-2026, who are now in the third stage.
The curricula, training workshops, and clinical placement of this department are designed to suit international standards, and this is through the supervision of the International Committee of the Red Cross and coordination between Erbil Technical University and the German educational institution Human Study for Prosthetics and Orthotics.
