Vision of the Department

The vision of the department is to make College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS) a centre of excellence in the training and development of Orthopaedic Technologists in Rwanda and Africa.

Mission of the Department

The mission of the department and the curriculum is to develop and improve the capacity of Orthopaedic Technologists.

Rationale of the program

Initially, as a result of the after-effects of the 1994 war, there was a high demand for competent Orthopaedic Technologists who are part of the rehabilitation team. Therefore Orthopaedic Technologists trained in other countries came to Rwanda and worked to meet this demand as there were none of them in Rwanda. All of the Orthopaedic Technologists currently working in Rwanda were trained in other countries.

Duration of the program

The Advanced Diploma program in Orthopaedic Technology is a full-time course for 3 years with two semesters in each year.
