ISPO Brazil possesses a solid basis thanks to its close collaboration with the historic and nationally renowned organization, the Brazilian Association of Technical Orthotics (Associação Brasileira de Ortopedia Técnica – ABOTEC). Several important members of ABOTEC’s directorship are also part of ISPO Brazil, playing an important role in the development and consolidation of ISPO Brazil.
According to official data gathered by the Brazilian Government through the “Plano Viver Sem Limites” (Living Without Limits Plan), there are 45 Million people in need of some sort of assistive device today. Of those, it can be estimated that 25 Million people need P&O assistance, while only 2000 professionals possess basic certification out of which 600 professionals have technical training that is according to ISPO standards (P&O training, Universidad Don Bosco).

ISPO Canada also collaborates with Canadian researchers and member societies devoted to improving the lives of users of prosthetic, orthotic, mobility and assistive technology. We connect Canadian practitioners, researchers and students with the international P&O community, and hold educational events to promote knowledge translation.

Desde el año 2021 constituye su fundamento, los pilares de sus áreas de competencia asumiendo: como Director Ejecutivo – CPO Jorge Campos, director Administrativo – CPO María José Salgado y como Director General de Planificación y Estudios – Dra. Yudith Chivatá.
En este periodo, se ha logrado materializar las funciones acotadas a la situación pandémica actual, en el área ejecutiva se tiene un espacio físico y virtual para dar respuesta a los requerimientos de los miembros afiliados y quienes soliciten asesoramiento sobre áreas especificas de la profesión.
En el área de la dirección administrativa se consolido la afiliación a miembros nacionales como interesados en participar activamente de esta institución y se encuentra vigente la planificación de apoyo al área ejecutiva y de educación para cumplir con los lineamientos de ISPO Internacional.
En el área de planificación y estudios, contamos con consultoría del área fisiátrica y técnica especializada, dando respuesta a las inquietudes de profesionales y técnicos que requieren apoyo en su labor y aporte a la planificación de estudios.
La mesa de trabajo directiva ha logrado impartir capacitaciones online tipo webinar cubriendo la demanda interna y sudamericana, llegando a mitad de año con 9 seminarios web, contando con profesionales y técnicos del área de América y Europa.

Following its creation in 2014, ISPO El Salvador is seeking to increase the quality of education standards in rehabilitation services through the participation of all the sectors related. ISPO El Salvador’s aim is to share ISPO’s vision of contributing towards a world where all persons have equal opportunity for full participation in society, promoting the provision of quality services, innovative technology, clinically relevant research, and education in the field of rehabilitation for persons with physical disabilities.
ISPO El Salvador was formed so it can:
- Promote high-quality rehabilitation services to people from the Republic of El Salvador through continuing to educate all its members and other stakeholders while serving as a professional, impartial, non-political and non-profit organization.
- Collaborate and provide counselling, advice, etc. on orthotics, prosthetics, assistive devices, rehabilitation and issues related to the neuromusculoskeletal system.
- Working in close collaboration with other national and international organizations to avoid the duplication of efforts and maximise optimal use of resources in the country.

Nous avons travaillé, avec l’environnement français de l’Orthopédie, et construit ISPO-France qui est devenu LE carrefour de l’orthopédie dont la France avait besoin. Une large place à l’établissement de relations confraternelles et a leur développement au cœur de notre Environnement a toujours représenté l’un des fondements de notre Société savante.
Le chemin vers la Pluriridisciplinarité qui nous avait été montré par ISPO à l’international a été notre moteur. Les Professionnels de l’Orthopédie s’y sont très vite retrouvés, et nous ont faits confiance. C’est ce postulat qui a toujours été la clé de nos réussites.
ISPO-France s’est ainsi imposée comme véritable “force de propositions”. En évitant de réduire notre objet à la technique de l’appareillage, et plaçant le patient au centre de nos préoccupations et de nos travaux, tout en valorisant l’acte d’application, nous avons réussi à placer la Société Française ISPO au cœur d’un terrain difficile, au carrefour de 7 professions.
ISPO est ouverte aux professionnels de l’Orthopédie: Chirurgiens, Médecins, Ortho-prothésistes, Podo-orthésistes, Kinésithérapeutes, Ergothérapeutes, Ingénieurs Biomécaniciens. The ISPO Member Society in Sweden, Iceland, Denmark and Finland was established in 1975 with the goal to raise the level of competence and scientific standards within the field of prosthetics and orthotics.
The initial task was to stimulate the initiation and use of a multidisciplinary team approach in treating users of prosthetic and orthotic services. Through the years, many additional areas of focus have been established, and efforts to arrange conferences and courses have successfully established a strong and active NMS in Sweden, Iceland, Denmark and Finland.
Below are the current objectives defined by the ISPO Nordic NMS.
ISPO Nordic’s objective: Our objective as a multi-professional organization is to promote a high level of national knowledge in prosthetic and orthotic treatments, facilitate improvement of services to people with physical disabilities, and facilitate an active life and participation in society for individuals who use prosthetic and orthotic services.
ISPO Nordic will:
- Promote multi-professional collaboration and stimulate an evidence-based approach.
- Arrange courses and/or conferences to spread knowledge about research, evidence-based interventions, and experience-based clinical practice.
- Promote the use of ICF as a platform for goal formulations and communication.
- Promote the use of nomenclature according to International Standards Organization (ISO) for terms and descriptions in the field.
- Promote innovative therapies.
- Contribute to the introduction and use of national quality registries.
- Participate in work within ISPO-International.

Neben der Prothetik und Orthetik umfasst dies die Orthopädie-Schuhtechnik, die Bandagistik, die Rehabilitation in technischer und therapeutischer Hinsicht, sowie die ärztliche Betreuung.
Ziel der Sektion Schweiz der ISPO ist neben der qualitativen Förderung der Aus- und Weiterbildung, die Unterstützung der Forschung und vor allem auch der internationale Anschluss als Gesamtes und in den einzelnen Fachbereichen. Über diese Verbindungen konnten schon zahlreiche Auslandaufenthalte vor allem jüngerer Mitglieder organisiert werden. Neben den erweiterten Kenntnissen kann so auch unser Netzwerk weiter ausgebaut werden.

Le but de la section Suisse de l’ISPO est d’un côté le support qualitatif de la formation initiale et continue et de l’autre côté le soutien de la recherche. Un autre objectif est le contact international dans son ensemble et dans les domaines spécialisés mentionnés. Par ces contacts, de nombreux séjours à l’étranger ont été établis, notamment par de jeunes membres. En plus de l’élargissement des connaissances, cela nous permet également de développer notre réseau.

ISPO Ukraine plans to:
- Work with the Ukraine Educational Institutes to establish dedicated regular CPO courses.
- Organise seminars, workshops with ISPO in Ukraine.
- Act as a conduit between the P&O sector and the govt.
- Help the govt. in making better laws for the differently abled people.
- Create awareness in the civil society towards disability and rehabilitation and enhance the society’s role in it.
- Act as a platform and the voice of the differently abled people.

During the course of 2020/21, as with all organisations, we have dramatically changed the way we communicate with members and host events. During 2021 we hosted regular webinars on a range of relevant topics across rehabilitation. We also hosted an online Annual Scientific Meeting in collaboration with ISPO Norway. We have set up a Special Interest Group focusing on upper limb difference. We are actively preparing for the international TIPS upper limb scientific conference, which is a 3 day virtual event running from 30 March to 1 April 2022 in collaboration with ISPO Netherlands MS.

ISPO Niger intends to hold workshops for orthoprosthetists and physiotherapists working in the field of orthopaedics within Niger, as well as to organise a short training session for assistant-technicians. The Member Society also benefits from a long-standing relationship with the Niger Physiotherapist Association (AKN), with whom it often works together on physical rehabilitation issues in Niger.

The creation of the ISPO Member Society in Myanmar aims at:

With the guidance of regional partners, ISPO Myanmar will work towards the standardization of the status of the P&O profession. Its members includes students and graduates in Orthotics/Prosthetics, as well as those who are involved in relevant fields such as Biomechanics, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Medicine, etc.
ISPO-Iran has collaborated with various associations in Iran, including the Iranian Scientific Association for Orthotics and Prosthetics, the Iranian Orthopaedic Association, and the Iranian Rehabilitation Engineering Association.
Collaboratively, ISPO Iran, the Iranian Red Crescent Society, and the Iranian Orthopaedic Association, along with ISPO, have conducted two international short training courses:

The activities of ISPO Qatar are driven mainly by staff from the department of Prosthetics & Orthotics of Rumailah Hospital, which has a combined experience of over 32 years and is the foremost comprehensive facility of its kind in Qatar. Rumailah Hospital is a multispecialty wing of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) that provides medical, surgical and long term care for the population of Qatar.
To meet with the national vision of Hamad Medical Corporation, the department of Prosthetics & Orthotics is interested in collaborating with the International Society of Prosthetics & Orthotics by being an active member and developing an international standard of practice as advocated by ISPO.
ISPO Qatar has a five-fold strategy to improve the field of Prosthetics & Orthotics in the country, by having all professional staff recognised with ISPO membership; to be associated with International members and become aware of the latest advances in the field of P&O; to arrange courses for upgrading the staff’s knowledge with present-day international practices; to create a forum with other multidisciplinary teams on equal terms by exchanging ideas, knowledge & experiences, and lastly, to raise awareness of ISPO Qatar’s services and profession.

The vision for ISPO Australia is to strengthen the lives of the user community of prosthetic and orthotic devices through a multidisciplinary approach to care. This collaborative approach provides our members an opportunity to identify, plan and deliver projects and support to Australian based practitioners, with a focus on rural and remote needs and needs of our regional pacific neighbours.
The domains of focus are Science and Research, Education, and Outreach services. Projects and activities are underpinned by active treasury, marketing and member services provided from the Executive Committee.
Past projects and ongoing initiatives include financial support for ISPO congress attendance, delivering high risk foot workshops within pacific region, authorship and publication of Donations Guidelines relating to O&P componentry, providing funding for Research Grant bi-annually, supporting publication of research for broader audience via open access, and establishing outreach rehabilitation services and mentorship.
ISPO Australia is appreciative of all efforts and contributions, and is actively seeking volunteers from our member base to continue the work many have been involved with over many years.

The Cambodian Prosthetist and Orthotist Association (KhAPO) was established in December 2002 by a group of qualified prosthetists and orthotists (P&O), an engineer and prosthetic and orthotic technicians; with the aim of empowering prosthetists and orthotists in Cambodia to achieve the quality of prosthetic and orthotic services to a high standard for people with disability. Each year, the association has organized a national congress, moving around to different provinces to raise society awareness and to provide members with continual professional developmentCambodian P&O graduates have demonstrated their competence in making artificial limbs and braces for people with disabilities. Its involvement in both physical rehabilitation and community based rehabilitation has improved the lives of many people with a disability. Based on the annual reports from each Physical Rehabilitation Center, at least 200 prosthetic and orthotic devices have been produced by P&Os in Cambodia. On a combined basis, the 11 physical rehabilitation centers produce about 12000 prosthetic and orthotic devices each year.
In 2013, KhAPO became an ISPO Member Society. ISPO Cambodia has collaborated with ISPO Norway since 2013 as part of a „twinning partnership‟ and is an active MS in ISPO fora.
Vision: A prosthetic and orthotic profession which provides the best service possible to achieve improved quality of life for people with disabilities.

The Philippines National Member Society helps support the establishment of the P&O profession in the country, to encourage integration of the discipline into professional communities, to develop national standards for practice, and to work towards legal recognition of the profession at national level.
ISPO Philippines is committed to ensure that Prosthetists and Orthotists meet similar standards as other health-care professionals in the Philippines. ISPO Philippines intends to do this by setting national practice guidelines and establishing a post-graduate competency exam.
Future plans will also include education events to encourage interdisciplinary collaborations and continuous professional development.
